Todd Boehly was unhappy with Thomas Tuchel during the summer transfer window and felt he could have done more to convince players to sign, according to reports.
The German was unexpectedly fired from his job on Wednesday morning following a shocking 1-0 loss away to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, and Graham Potter of Brighton was anticipated to take his place.
Tuchel's dismissal, it seems, had less to do with his performance and outcomes on the field and more to do with his off-field interactions with Chelsea's management.
According to CBS Sports, Boehly and his fellow directors felt they missed out on recruiting players as a result of Tuchel's lack of assistance in persuading players to join Chelsea.
The two that stood out most were Raphinha and Jules Kounde, for whom Boehly had lobbied hard but who instead ended up signing with Barcelona.
In Kounde's situation, Chelsea had consented a fee with Sevilla and Barca’s hierarchy had even resigned themselves to missing out on the Frenchman.
Boehly wanted Tuchel to sell the club to Kounde and felt the 23-year-old could be persuaded to snub Barca at that stage – though the German did not seem to share his owner’s enthusiasm over a deal..
