Alonso is closing in on ending his stint with Chelsea before the summer transfer window shuts down.

Before the summer transfer window closes, Marcos Alonso is almost certain to leave Chelsea. Before the deadline on Thursday, the 31-year-old defender will finally finalize his planned transfer to Barcelona.

The Spanish international has been with the Blues for for six years, but due to his propensity for blowing hot and cold, he has never been able to win over the entire fan base of the London club. The Spanish defender played more than 200 games with the Blues, scoring 29 goals and dishing out 23 assists over the course of the previous six seasons.

But the Spaniard faces an uncertain future at Chelsea after entering the final year of his deal at Chelsea. And Marcos has long been eager to return to La Liga for his career’s next phase, with the Blaugrana his preferred destination.

Recent reports had claimed that the Catalan giants had cooled interest in Alonso amid difficulties in getting a deal over the line. But Barcelona have not given up yet, with Alonso still featuring prominently on their wishlist.
