An FA commission report has detailed why Thomas Tuchel received a ban for his scuffle with Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, but the Italian avoided a suspension.
The managers of Chelsea and Tottenham argued during the 2-2 draw earlier this month, but they got into a more serious argument when they shook hands following the game.
Conte spun around as Tuchel wouldn't let go of the shake, incensed that the Spurs manager hadn't given him a direct look.
Tuchel was fined £35,000 and handed a one-match touchline ban as a result of the FA's determination that he "instigated the conflict," while Conte received a fine of £15,000 and escaped a penalty.
"It was quite evident TT who provoked the confrontation between himself and AC by opting to hold AC's hand and jolt him back after AC had passed him by," the FA commission's report stated.
"The conflict between the two and the ensuing melee would not have taken place if TT hadn't grabbed AC's hand;
"TT's clutching of AC's hand for the reason he stated—that AC did not look him in the eye—was simply not reasonable; perfunctory handshakes are usual at the conclusion of intense football matches, and there is no requirement that one person look the other in the eye while shaking hands;
TT's instruction to AC to gaze into his eyes while holding his hand and preventing AC from backing away was a highly provocative act;
"AC was physically pushed into the altercation with TT without his choice; while AC did act forcefully in response to TT's activities, the Commission did not view him as having hugely overreacted given the circumstances.’
Tuchel’s ban was briefly suspended, which is why he was on the touchline for the 3-0 defeat to Leeds at the weekend, but will miss Chelsea’s clash with Leicester on Saturday..
