Chelsea closely monitoring 28-year-old Belgium international
The London giants are set to splurge €130m for the services of Inter Milan centre-forward Romelu Lukaku, who is not too keen on leaving San Siro. However, Borussia Dortmund are unwilling to budge from their €175m demands, causing the Blues to look towards their other primary option in Belgium international.
It appears Chelsea are set to splash €130m, which is slightly more than what was thought to be Nerazzurri’s asking fee for Lukaku. The London giants have even made an informal approach to add Romelu and are open to using Timo Werner to sweeten the deal.
But, it appears the 28-year-old centre-forward has no intention of leaving the Nerazzurri, despite the departure of Antonio Conte this summer. It serves as a huge blow for the Blues, who are already finding it difficult to strike a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Erling Haaland.
Harry Kane, too, is not a realistic option, with Tottenham unwilling to offload their prized asset to a direct London rival. If he does move, Kane is most likely to join Man City, who are reportedly readying a stunning €160m offer.
Nevertheless, Romelu was certainly an excellent option due to his experience and proven track record in the PL. Most importantly, the Belgian striker has significantly improved his game under Antonio Conte, boasting an incredible goalscoring tally that was critical in helping Inter Milan lift the Scudetto last campaign.
Chelsea were linked with a move for Alexander Isak earlier in the summer, but it appears the German manager favours more proven options like Haaland, Lukaku and Kane.
